Kathleen D. Mix was appointed in December 2005 to serve on the Pollution Control Hearings Board, Shorelines Hearings Board and Environmental and Land Use Hearings Board.

Ms. Mix served as Chief Deputy Attorney General for Attorney General Chris Gregoire from 1993 to January, 2005. In that capacity, she was responsible for the resolution of legal and administrative issues throughout state government and the Attorney General's Office.

During 2005, Ms. Mix was appointed a Senior Assistant Director in the Office of Financial Management, where she handled legal issues for the Governor's Office and managed the state risk management division.

Ms. Mix was appointed as an Assistant Attorney General in 1979 by Attorney General Slade Gorton, and represented several state agencies, including the Department of Corrections and the Department of Ecology during her first years with that office. She represented Corrections in cases involving environmental challenges to the siting of new prisons, and became the head of the hazardous waste litigation section of the Ecology Division of the Attorney General's Office. She also served as the head of the Attorney General's capital litigation team, leading the state through its first executions in 30 years. As Chief Deputy Attorney General, Ms. Mix argued before the United States Supreme Court.

In 2004, Governor Locke awarded Ms. Mix the Governor's Distinguished Management Leadership Award as a Sustaining Leader in Washington State Government. In 2002, the Conference of Western Attorneys General honored Ms. Mix as the first recipient of its Kempsky Management and Leadership Award for outstanding leadership and development of management practices of benefit to all Attorney Generals' Offices. She has received two President's Awards from the National Association of Attorneys General for work on environmental cleanup at federal facilities and development of protocols for multi-state litigation.

Ms. Mix holds a B.A. cum laude from the University of Wyoming (1972) and a J.D. from the Seattle University School of Law (1976). In 1999, she attended Harvard's John F. Kennedy School of Government Program for Senior Executives in State and Local Government.
